Viennese Pop-Punk Quartet „Kung Fu Kitty“ celebrated the video release of „Purple“ from namesake Album „Massive Purple Flash of Lightning“ with a terrific show at the Addicted To Rock special at U4 on the 2.5.2014.
Technically tight and gifted with good stage presence, they are fronted by blonde whirlwind Lisi who does a great job on vocals and as main focal point for the audience through her skill, energy and showmanship. Also her hair goes all over the place, a trademark to be sure. The large crowd definitely got a kick out of it.
As far as Austrian bands go that decide to sing in english, Kung Fu Kitty, home on Pate Records, do a decent job convincing us that they are native speakers, a pitfall many local bands often fall into. The trained ear can still distinguish it, but it’s getting there. Lisi did mention that she was taking time in England to perfect the language, let’s see what these efforts yield.
The band that consists of no less than three siblings makes music that takes influence from the likes of Billy Talent, Queens of the Stone Age, the Offspring and the Foo Fighters. The added element of Lisi’s „Riot Girl“ appearance and attitude puts a good spin on a tried and tested formula and makes it seems fresh and on point.
Technically still a young band, formed in 2009, the future looks bright for these up-starts. I am looking forward to the next album release, I think once they have a big enough library to draw from they’ll start cranking out seriously bad ass setlists. Send them on the festival circuit!
The video to „Purple“ marks the third release of singles from their current album „Massive Purple Flash of Lightning“, following previous efforts „Over the Edge“ and „Betrayer“.
