The Donaukanaltreiben is an inner city festival that stretches along Vienna’s Danube Channel from Spittelau to Schwedenplatz. On a gorgeous day sun seeking lovers of good times were treated to a wide selection of drink, food and most importantly gigs along the water. We went to take some snapshots of She and the Junkies and I-Wolf & the Chainreactions at the Adria Wien stage to capture some of the action.
These young Austrian rockers got the crowd going with a mix of Indie and Stoner Rock reminiscent of The Fratellis, Queens of the Stone Age and The Killers. The four piece of She and the Junkies made excellent use of a combination of synth and electric guitars to deliver a loud and tight set in a manner perhaps surprising for such a young band.
Their Stage acrobatics coupled well with the intensity of their performance, giving us a visceral feast for both the ears and eyes. Addiction is definitely a possibility here. By their own description they are:
„She and the Junkies“
is the hottest austrian liveact around with a top live-performance and everlasting, addicitive songs.
Stoner Rock & Desert Rock at it’s best!
Music is their drug, their music is your drug, our music is everybodies drug!
Get ready to experience an austrian act, who does not sound nor act austrian …
beacuse their music is an international drug, borderless fun and a universal show!
See them when you can!
Enjoy them. You can!

„We play music with a lot of Bass“, duly said and duly delivered. I-Wolf & the Chainreactions are an eclectic mix somewhere between the deeply electronic and the heavily acoustic. Featuring a slew of synthesizers, vocalists and even an electronic Harp, the music sets out to get the people moving and grooving. Dance music at a high level, I thought the setting under the heavily graffitied bridge made for an interesting location during the dying embers of daylight on this fine summer’s day.
I-Wolf is the solo music project of Wolfgang Schlögl. Schlögl is a producer, multi-instrumentalist and founding member of the Viennese dub/techno/downbeat heroes Sofa Surfers. His other music projects include the Faraday Orchestra, which combines physics and music by turning molecular processes into sound sequences, and Paradies der Tiere as an outlet for stripped-down rock/pop music. Wolfgang Schlögl is also very actively composing and performing music for theatre and film productions. In 2012 he initiated the multimedia/art/performance project Bee Pop together with Paul Divjak, acting as a conductor for an orchestra of about 100.000 bees.
