The Rock only appeared on the viennese „Gig-Circuit“ recently. As a venue it gains traction with it’s DIY, pirate aesthetic and genuine affinity for rock and roll. While it is a small venue, it make sup for it with intensity and care towards to artists and guests alike. Tonight it was Charlywood and She and the Junkies that descended upon the rock to teach the good people of Vienna about Rock’n’Roll.
Charlywood from Vienna opened the show with a good blend of alternative rock. The outfit is fronted by englishman and namesake Andrew Charlewood and delivered a mix of technically strong and catchy rock and roll to get the crowd in the mood. We were treated to some of Andrew’s fun ramblings and had a good time watching them making the most out of an opening slot.
You can check out their debut album here.

and then, at last, She and the Junkies came on.
First thing they did, have a shot of Jägermeister. Second thing they did? Take of their shirts! Third thing? Play very loud and raucous Rock’N’Roll!
These guys have made quite the splash since we last encountered them. Fresh off a mini tour through Berlin the St. Pölten Four-Piece found their way back to Vienna to regale us with their tales of conquest.
They label their music as „Junk Rock“, in reality it is somewhere between punk, hard rock, prog rock and post punk. Self-proclaimed as one of the best live acts in Austria, the Junkies prooved their disposition towards intense gigs yet again since we last took pictures of them at the Donaukanaltreiben in the summer. It’s a full contact high when you watch these guys fling their instruments through the air and work them with an almost animalistic fervor.
Is it true that they don’t sound Austrian? Nah, they simply sound good. Being Austrian doesn’t make you good or bad, it just makes you prone to complaining about the good things in life. As such, accept your destiny and just rock out with your c*** out. Borders and nationstates are negligble in the greater scheme of glorious Rock’N*Roll!
